“Wireless Concepts: The Use and Abuse of Wireless Technologies”
There are many things to consider when integrating a wireless module into a product. Understanding how best to use wireless technology will prevent you from being abused during the design and approval process.
In this presentation we will attempt to discover the answers to these and many of the other mysteries of life! We will
explore some of the coming wireless technologies and some of unique measurement challenges they present.
Our Speaker: Mr. Tom Tidwell has worked for 20 years in the testing and global certification business, primarily in the areas of Electromagnetic Compatibility, and Wireless. He has eight years as a NARTE certified EMC laboratory engineer. Tom trained as a TCB review engineer for performing review of FCC and Industry Canada Equipment Authorization filings. Currently Mr. Tidwell is employed by NTS Corporation as Wireless manager in the Plano, Texas facility. Minutes: IEEE/EMC Society Monthly Meeting, September 19, 2006
The September 2006 meeting of the Dallas IEEE/EMC Society was held at National Technical Services, Plano, Texas on September 19th. An opportunity for networking was provided while refreshments were served from 6 to 7 PM, following which, the meeting was opened by Bill Paschetag, chapter chairman. The Minutes from the May 2006 meeting were read by chapter chairman Bill Paschetag. Attendees introduced themselves and Bill introduced the speaker. The speaker for the evening was Mr. Tom Tidwell, Manager of NTS’s Wireless Test Facility, Plano, Texas. His topic was “The Use and Abuse of Wireless Technologies”. The presentation discussed such issues facing designers such as which wireless technology is best suited for the application, whether or not to use an approved module and what restrictions of use might there be if using an approved module, and possible additional EMC design challenges. Tom also discussed how the regulatory testing might be performed and some administrative challenges that could be faced during the regulatory process. He presented some of the coming wireless technologies and some of unique measurement challenges they present. There were 19 attendees, including 15 IEEE members and 4 non-members. The facility and refreshments, pizza and soft drinks, was provided by NTS. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM. The next meeting will be held on October 17th, 2006 at the Richardson TX Holiday Inn Select.
